Sunaad School

Sunaad School for the Hearing Impaired, established in 1988, addresses the needs of children with hearing impairment. The school employs the oral method and follows the State Government Syllabus, offering education in both Kannada and English. It is managed by the Bangalore Speech and Hearing Trust.

The school admits children with hearing impairments from the age of 4. It has 30 well-trained and experienced staff members, including 8 teachers with B.Ed (HI) and 11 teachers with DSE (HI) qualifications. PT and Craft teachers also hold relevant qualifications, with all staff having extensive experience in special education.

Education at Sunaad School is entirely free of cost, including a transport facility for pick-up and drop-off. Remarkably, the school has achieved a 100% pass rate in the SSLC Examination for the past four years. Currently, approximately 174 students are enrolled, ranging from preschool to 10th grade.

Given that the majority of students come from below the poverty line, organisations like the Lions Club and Rotary Club provide essential resources such as school books and milk. The school receives Child Centric Grant-in-aid from the Government of Karnataka, ensuring that education, speech and hearing evaluations, speech therapy, hearing aid repair, travel, and uniforms are all provided free of charge. Additionally, all students receive mid-day meals.

Hearing aids and spare parts are provided at no cost to deserving children through the Smt. K. S. Bramarambha and Dr. K. S. Sriram Endowment, Lions Club of Bangalore East, Starkey Foundation, and members of the Lions Club of Bangalore East. Furthermore, S. Ramachandran has established a merit scholarship for outstanding students.

The Smart Classrooms are equipped with laptops and LED monitors, donated by Cognizant Foundation, to overcome the limitations of manually prepared teaching-learning materials (TLMs). All classrooms have internet connectivity, and the use of visual resources such as PPTs, DVDs, and computer programs enhances the effectiveness of education.
