There are certain populations who find it difficult to understand speech even though their hearing is normal. In such cases, it is assumed that there is some involvement at the level of the brain itself that is causing the problem. A central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) assessment is the best way to identify such conditions. This detailed test will help you understand if there is a problem in understanding speech in noise, in remembering information that you heard, if you have difficulty in following instructions, etc. Based on the outcome of the evaluation, the patient is encouraged to undergo CAPD rehabilitation in order to work on the skill that they find too difficult.
